Do you have a desire in your heart to just slip away and escape your hectic everyday life? Would you like to experience a spiritual adventure with your Lord? How would you like to go on your own personal retreat with Christ?
If you answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions, then I encourage you to start making plans now for a 21-day extended time of prayer and fasting. The Daniel Fast awaits you. And during that time you can draw nearer to God. You can seek answers for your prayers. You can come to the Lord for direction and guidance.
But certainly God has heard me; He has attended to the voice of my prayer.
Imagine for a moment that you were going off to a cozy little cottage to spend time with your heavenly Father. That’s what you can do when you make plans to come near to the Lord on your Daniel Fast.
One of the tips that I teach, about entering a time of extended prayer and fasting, is to create your own secret place. Psalm 91 promises that when you enter the secret place of the Most High that you will be, “Under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.”
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.”
Perhaps you don’t need protection from enemies or invading armies. My guess is that you want to protection from chaos or a never-ending to-do list. You want to retreat into a time of fewer demands, more peace, and to enter Christ’s promised rest.
Rest in Him is the theme of the upcoming New Year fast that I’m leading. Most people will begin the fast at sunrise on January 6th. Many people will join with the members of their church for the annual New Year fast. And still millions will enter the fasting experience as an individual. However you can begin on whatever day is right for you.
The theme for this year’s fast, Rest in Him, is in response to the many messages I’ve received from people like you. The common challenges people are facing is that they feel separated from God. They find their lives are so busy that they can’t find time to spend with Him. They feel overwhelmed and disconnected. Their crying need was for a reset.
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am [a]gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
The reset that all of us want is to enter into the rest that Christ promises in God’s Word. Jesus has offered you an open invitation to enter into an experience with Him during your time of prayer and fasting. It’s the personal retreat that you can enjoy with the One who loves you more than you can ever measure.
Yes, it would be wonderful to go to a far off and separate little cottage in the woods and spend time with the Lord. Since that isn’t an option right now, what you can do is create your own Secret Place in your home. A cozy, comfortable and specially prepared place for you to meet with your God every morning.
As you spend time with the Lord He will lead, direct, and teach you the things that you desire to know. You can learn to hear His voice. You can discover how to sense the leading of the Holy Spirit in your life. And you can develop your trust in Him.
He who heeds the word wisely will find good, And whoever trusts in the Lord, happy is he.
You can also learn what I call a “better way to pray.” When you begin to understand who you are in Christ, and your citizenship of heaven, you’ll quickly see that you have rights, privileges, and answers to your prayers that you may not have ever realized before.
Your Father wants you to have a life filled with joy, purpose, peace, and love. Enter His rest. That is His invitation to you. Imagine starting the New Year on a personal retreat with the Lord Jesus Christ.
Imagine beginning anew. Imagine the great and wonderful life you can have as you bring God into the center of everything you do.
Know this fact for sure: the Lord God loves you more than you will ever be able to imagine. You are precious in His sight. And He wants to give you every single thing that your heart desires.
